Nook GlowLight Plus Unboxing

Okay kids. I did it. I bit the bullet and bought an e-reader.

This was a big deal. I have been (and still sort of am, frankly) anti-ebook. I just haven’t been able to get into them. I love my physical books! The way they feel, look, and smell is something that just can’t be beat.

So why did I cave? A few reasons. 1. I’m about to go on my third business trip this month and packing multiple books takes up precious space in my carry-on. 2. My tiny ~900 square foot apartment simply cannot hold more books. 3. (related to #2) The husband and I are planning on buying a house in the next year and a half and as much as I love them, moving books SUCKS. It is seriously the worst.

But why a Nook? Why not the industry-leading Kindle? I got close to buying a Kindle a few weeks ago but I had my reservations. I have a membership to Barnes & Noble which saves me 10% on each purchase. I also am a big dork and my credit card that I use daily is a Barnes & Noble Mastercard that gets me Barnes & Noble gift cards (no this post was in no way sponsored by B&N, I just love them). I’ve done a lot of research in the past few weeks because this was not a purchase I took lightly. I wanted to make the right decision. Nook Books are published in the .epub format which does not play nice with Kindles (they use the proprietary .mobi format) and I didn’t want to deal with converting every file to make it compatible with the Kindle, but I also wasn’t impressed with the original Nook GlowLight, so I was torn.

I had pretty much written off the idea of getting an e-reader at all until yesterday when an email popped up in my inbox – Meet the New GlowLight Plus! I was immediately intrigued and started looking into it. It is much more attractive than its predecessor and is even waterproof! Up until now the only e-reader to offer that is the Kobo Aura H2O which will run you $180. The Nook GlowLight Plus is $129 and I already mentioned that B&N members get 10% off. With my Barnes & Noble Mastercard that gives me 5% back on B&N purchases, this was looking like a really good deal. I’m excellent at talking myself out of things so I walked into the store today and said “I’m here to buy a Nook” and walked out with it before I could change my mind.

So with all that said, here’s the unboxing!

Here it is! The back is a pretty rose-goldish that reminds me of my iPhone 6.

They also had a decent amount of cute covers for sale already which is pretty unprecedented for such a new release.

And a few bonus shots of Elsa wanting to get to know the Nook too!

So what about you? Do you have an e-reader? How long did it take you to make the transition from paper to e-book?

  1. Well it’s about time someone started caring about dogs reading! The canine literacy rate is just terrible in this country!

    Your Nook is so pretty!
